The Ellerslie School Tournée d'échange d'étudiants de la Barbade à la Guadeloupe du 20 au 24 juin 2019

Guadeloupe is an overseas department of France, and therefore flies the flag of France.

Guadeloupe (Le Papillon)
French Department

Guadeloupe, a French overseas region, is an island group in the southern Caribbean Sea. Resembling a butterfly, its 2 largest islands are separated by the Salée River. Hilly Grande-Terre Island has long beaches and sugarcane fields. On Basse-Terre Island, Parc National de la Guadeloupe encompasses Carbet Falls and the volcano La Grande Soufrière. Smaller islands include Marie-Galante and La Désirade.

Capital: Basse-Terre
Population: 395,700 (2016)
Points of interest: Îles des Saintes, La Grande Soufrière
Official language: French

The Foreign Language Department of The Ellerslie School identified the following objectives in preparation for this educational tour to Guadeloupe:
  • encourage our students to embrace French as a second language
  • revitalize the study of French on the school's curriculum
  • establish links with Guadeloupe.
Of note, students and teachers from Guadeloupe visited the school on the 17th June 2019 as part of this exchange programme. Our Guadeloupean guests were given a tour of various parts of the school followed by a friendly cricket match with our team.
