STATEMENT OF FAITH

The Bible teaches that there is “one faith” which has been once for all delivered to the saints (Ephesians 4:5; Jude 3). The question is:  What is this One Faith? We recognize that all believers do not agree on every detail of doctrinal interpretation or every application of truth; yet Paul admonished us to all “speak the same thing” (1 Corinthians 1:10). This suggests that we must decide which doctrines we do agree on and commit ourselves to not sowing discord over those on which we do not agree. Eventually, it is hoped, we will all grow together into the “unity of the faith” (Ephesians 4:13). Based on this premise, we can confidently affirm that we do believe the following doctrines:

1. WE BELIEVE THAT the Bible in its original languages is uniquely the infallible, unchangeable, divinely inspired Word of God by which all believers are to order their lives. (2 Timothy 3:16; Proverbs 30:5-6; Psalm 119:89; Matthew 7:24-27).

2. WE BELIEVE THAT there is one God, who is Creator of all things and Lord over all creation; that He is an eternal, invisible, omnipresent, almighty Spirit; that He is holy; that He is merciful and good; and that He is the author and arbiter of all Truth; and that God is ONE. (Isaiah 45:5; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Revelation 4:11; Matthew 11:25; Psalm 90:2; 1 Timothy 1:17; Jeremiah 23:24; Genesis 17:1; John 4:24; 1 Peter 1:16; Psalm 103:8; Psalm 145:9; Deuteronomy 32:4; 6:4).

3. WE BELIEVE THAT God was manifest in flesh as the Man, Jesus of Nazareth, who is the Son of God, the Christ, and our Savior; that in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and that the name JESUS is the only personal name of Deity given among men whereby we must be saved. (1 Timothy 3:16; Romans 1:3; Matthew 16:16; John 4:42; Colossians 2:9; John 5:43; Hebrews 1:4; Philippians 2:9; Acts 4:12).

4. WE BELIEVE THAT Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was fully human; that He was begotten of the Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, was crucified for our sins, rose bodily from the dead on the third day, ascended into heaven, poured out the Holy Spirit, gave ministerial gifts to the Church, and is coming again to reward all human beings according to their works. (1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 2:16; Matthew 1:18; Luke 1:35; Hebrews 4:15; 1 Corinthians 15:3; Luke 24:51; Acts 1:9-11; 2:1-4; Ephesians 4:7-11; Revelation 22:12).

5. WE BELIEVE THAT salvation was purchased for all by the blood of Jesus Christ, but is effective only in those who repent, believe, and obey. (2 Corinthians 5:14; Luke 13:3; Mark 1:15; Acts 16:31; Hebrews 5:9).

6. WE BELIEVE THAT salvation is based solely and entirely upon the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, but that salvation is received through repentance from sin and faith in Jesus Christ, which must be expressed by baptism (full immersion) in water in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission (or forgiveness) of sins; and that those so doing are promised the gift of the Holy Spirit, which is initially evidenced by speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. (Acts 2:38; Acts 10:44-48; Acts 19:1-6; Acts 2:1-4).

7. WE BELIEVE THAT all believers must follow on to know the Lord, to keep His commandments, to perfect holiness, to love their neighbors as themselves, and to live in a manner that reflects a total commitment to the principles and standards of Christianity as set forth in the Bible—and that anything less than this will ultimately result in a departure from the faith, a falling away, and a fearful expectation of judgment. There is no unconditional eternal security. (Ezekiel 3:17-21; Hosea 6:3; 1 John 2:3; 2 Corinthians 7:1; Matthew 22:39; Titus 3:12; 1 Timothy 4:1; Hebrews 6:4-6; Hebrews 10:26-27).

8. WE BELIEVE THAT there will be a bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust; that all must appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that all who have been faithful will live forever with Jesus Christ; and that all who are unbelieving and unfaithful will be destroyed in the lake of fire, which God has prepared for the devil and his angels. (Daniel 12:2; Acts 24:15; Romans 14:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 20:12-15; Matthew 25:41).

Luke 9:23-24

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

23 And He was saying to them all, If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. 24 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.

POINTS TO REMEMBER ON THE EVANGELISM & MISSIONARY TRAIL

Owing to the strenuous nature of missionary tours, involving but not limited to: door-to-door, street, and market-place evangelism, as well as in-house ministry, which may involve long periods of walking, mountain climbing, driving, sailing and or flying, it is therefore required that all missionaries be at an acceptable level of fitness. If you are unaccustomed to any form of physically taxing exercise, this tour of duty is for…

Please carry an adequate supply of drinking water and dress appropriately for various forms of community outdoor/indoor evangelism to ensure the minimum of discomfort. Let’s make this yet another safe and spiritually rewarding missionary tour of duty for all involved.

DOs & DON’Ts
DO:

ü Carry an adequate supply of water, a minimum of one litre per person (if required).

ü  Take along snacks that will boost your energy levels, like fruits, granola bars, other health/sports bars etc.

ü  Wear a good sunscreen to avoid sunburn and mosquito repellent (if required).

ü  Wear loose fitting cotton clothing that covers your body (no bare midriffs or strapless garments): a loose cotton T-shirt and long pants (possibly jeans) are encouraged as we may be in grass and bushes.

ü  Wear a hat to minimize sun fatigue.

ü  Wear laced up sports shoes or hiking boots with double socks (if necessary), a smooth soft pair under a rough pair, this helps to avoid blisters from chafing (rubbing), as the socks will rub against each other rather than your feet.

ü  Carry any asthma or allergy related medications on your person along with a face mask if needed (to minimise exposure to pollutants in the atmosphere) and let the missionary leader know at the beginning if you have any health challenges.

ü  Always stay close to your missionary partner(s) or missionary leader (especially during outdoor community evangelism).

ü  Remember that flashlights may be required for outdoor evangelism.

DON’T:

ü  Over burden yourself with unnecessary baggage, like huge shoulder or hand bags and heavy haversacks. Take only the bare necessities.

ü  Eat food that will lead to tiredness or dehydration, like too many salty snacks, etc.

ü  Wear sandals or shoes you know are too tight or uncomfortable. Acquire appropriate footwear before leaving for the missionary tour of duty, especially if you know the type of terrain you will be travelling through (e.g., swamp, forest, mountain, sandy, or rocky ground, etc.)

ü  Allow stipulations/regulations/rules/laws governing a specific style of dress or diet, especially in a foreign culture or country, to hinder the spread of the gospel of Christ. Consider Paul’s counsel to the churches in Rome and Corinth (Rom.14; 1Cor.8; 1Cor.9:19-23; 1Cor.11:1-16).

It is expected that missionaries will obey the missionary leaders and be cooperative at all times. It only takes one person to ruin a good time and one divinely inspired change-maker to facilitate a glorious outcome for all.

Moreover, "17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well." (Mk.16:17-18 NIV).

  • Notwithstanding the inherent dangers involved in missions, divine wisdom along with adherence to security and health requirements or advisories, particularly in the host country, are taken into consideration prior to travelling to said destination(s) or while in the host country, as it may be necessary, and where possible, to make an emergency exit from the particular missionary area and or host country. See, an attempt on Paul’s life in Acts 23:12-31.
  • Remember: 'to obey is better than sacrifice' (1Sam. 15: 22)

TEMPERAMENT TEST

OBJECTIVE:    To help you identify your basic strengths and weaknesses. To bring more of God’s "fruit" to your life. To further understand your strengths in order to maximize your potential. Moreover, to enhance your ability to understand and communicate with others.

DEFINITIONS

CHARACTER:   "The real you. The hidden man / woman of the heart." It is the sum total of your training, education, attitudes, beliefs, principles and motivation. It is that which flows out of the "spirit being."

TEMPERAMENT:   The combination of inborn traits that subconsciously affect human behaviour. It provides each human being with distinguishing qualities of uniqueness that makes him / her individually different from his / her fellow being. It includes both strengths and weaknesses.

PERSONALITY:   The outward expression of ourselves. This may or may not be like character, depending on how genuine we are. It is the "face" we show others. A well-developed, godly personality will be the true expression of a solid character combined with a temperament "tempered" with the "fruit of the Holy Spirit" (Galatians 5:22-23).

KEY POINTS

1)    No person is a single temperament. Usually a person is predominately one temperament. However, there are varying degrees of temperaments.

2)    The idea of presenting the four types of temperaments is NOT to analyze others. This can be very demoralizing.

3)    This study is designed for self-analysis ONLY, and to help us become more understanding of the natural strengths and weaknesses of others.

THE FOUR BASIC TEMPERAMENTS

THE EXTROVERTS:

1.      Sanguine

2.      Choleric

THE INTROVERTS:

3.      Phlegmatic

4.      Melancholic

THE EXTROVERT
Somebody who is sociable, self-confident, and uninhibited when with other people.

THE INTROVERT
Somebody who tends to be more interested in his or her own feelings and thoughts than in other people and the outside world.

There are twelve major combinations of temperaments one can have:

Which temperament(s) and spiritual gift(s)/abilities do you possess?

NINE STEPS TO ADJUSTING TO OTHER TEMPERAMENTS

1.     Admit to yourself that you are not perfect [Gal. 3: 3; Phil. 3: 9-12; 2Tim. 3: 16-17].

2.     Accept the fact that others have weaknesses [Rom. 3: 23; Matt. 6: 12-15; 18: 21-22].

3.     Concentrate on appreciating the strengths of others [1Cor. 12; Eph. 4].

4.     Pray for each other’s weaknesses [Rom. 14; 15: 1-8; Jm. 5: 13-16; 19-20; 1Thess. 5: 14-17].

5.     Apologize when you are wrong [Acts 22: 1-5; 26: 9-12; 1Tim. 1: 12-17].

6.     Verbalize your love [Jn. 13: 34-35; 1Jn. 3: 10; 14; 18-20; 4: 7-8; 16-21].

7.     Accept each other’s temperament(s) and work with it / them. "Esteem others as better than ourselves" [Phil. 2: 3; Gal. 6: 1-3].

8.     Expect God to change you and to change others [Eph. 4: 20-32; Gal. 5: 16-26; Col. 3: 5-17].

9.     Be open with God and with others (secrets have a power of their own, which can imprison your mind) [Rom. 2: 16; Heb. 4: 15-16; 1Pet. 5: 7].

CONCLUSION:
In short, man’s basic image of himself is a composite of attitudes that develop in his mind from his earliest days. His parents (caretakers) were his first source of knowledge about himself. The more loving and consistent their attitudes toward him, the more positive and stable his image(s) of himself became. If as a child, however, his physical, psychosocial (soul), and spiritual needs were met only minimally, if at all, the images of himself then, were unstable; fluctuating between self-hate and self-doubt on the one hand, and self-exaltation and self-aggrandizement on the other hand. Additionally, secrets have a power over your life, which can imprison you. The less you have to hide, the more you are free to disclose about yourself.
